Southern California got a treat this past weekend when Insomniac Events hosted another Beyond Wonderland at the massive San Manuel Amphitheater.
The two-day festival incorporated the classic hookah-smoking caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland as the theme for the main-stage; Queen’s Domain. The main-stage featured acts such as Hardwell, Tchami, GTA, Showtek, Knife Party, Tiesto, Dillon Francis, and more.
The second largest stage, called the Mad Hatter’s Castle, featured outstanding lighting and pyrotechnics with a diverse lineup to match. Insomniac Event’s bass-heavy alter ego, Bassrush, hosted the second day of the Mad Hatter’s Castle. Bringing famous drum and bass acts such as Andy C + Armanni Reign and Loadstar. The Trap and dubstep artists were also in attendance. Getter, Slander, and Brillz tore it up in a magnanimous fashion. D-Block & S-te-Fan even came out and closed the weekend with a hard-hitting hardstyle set which surely drained every last ounce of energy out of the crowd before they stumbled back to the campgrounds for some much needed rest.
If you’re a fan of classic or new age techno, the Cheshire Woods structure filled your heart with joy when you saw Carl Cox closing out both nights, with a combined stage time of four and a half hours.
One of the most surprising yet satisfying elements of the weekend came from the Funk House stage, hosted by Planet Rock. Dj Jazzy Jeff (from the fresh prince of bel-air) and Z-trip blew people’s minds with their insane stage presence and incredible skill on the decks, both playing old and new hip-hop, jazz and even some Drake tracks.
All in all, it was another weekend for the books. Next up, a three-day Nocturnal Wonderland at the San Manuel Amphitheater. Good thing they have on-site campgrounds.
